Description

NGC 7380 is a young open cluster of stars in the northern circumpolar constellation of Cepheus. The surrounding emission nebulosity is known colloquially as the Wizard Nebula. It is located at a distance of approximately 8,500 light-years from the Sun, in the Perseus Arm of the Milky Way.

The cluster spans ~20 light-years with age estimates ranging from 4 to 11.9 million years. At the center of the cluster lies DH Cephei, a close, double-lined spectroscopic binary system consisting of two massive O-type stars. This pair is the primary ionizing source for the surrounding H II region, and is driving out the surrounding gas and dust while triggering star formation in the neighboring region. Another target I revisit, but this time after almost 4 years. It's becoming apparent that our brains are not counting pandemic years. The balcony field of view is getting repetitive, but that's fine, I get to see how much I improved over the years, and get reminded how long I've held this hobby so far (a record). Also, I need to dig deeper into other targets in my view.

Clear skies, and stay safe!
